Who can do this: All Cloverleaf users on a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace where an admin has already added and published the Cloverleaf app. If you don't see Cloverleaf in your tools (the + / apps menu in a chat), ask your ChatGPT workspace admin to complete the one-time setup first (see the Admin Setup section below).
Custom MCP apps run on ChatGPT on the web (in a desktop browser). They aren't available in the ChatGPT mobile apps.
Why connect Cloverleaf to ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a general-purpose AI assistant with no knowledge of how you or your teammates think, communicate, or work best.
Connecting the Cloverleaf Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector gives ChatGPT access to your real assessment results and coaching insights, including DISC, 16 Types, Motivating Values, and more.
This means coaching guidance you get inside ChatGPT is grounded in actual behavioral data rather than generic advice.
Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT to help you prep for a 1:1, navigate a difficult conversation, or understand how two people work together, and get responses informed by your Cloverleaf Relationship Profiles.
Enabling Cloverleaf MCP for your organization
Before anyone on your team can connect ChatGPT to Cloverleaf, a Cloverleaf organization admin needs to switch on the MCP integration. This is a one-time setting that applies to your whole organization, and it's separate from the ChatGPT-side setup below.
In Cloverleaf, open your Organization Settings and go to Configuration > Integrations (Integrations settings).
Find the Model Context Protocol (MCP) card.
Click the Enable button on the MCP card. Once it's on, the button switches to Disable — that's how you know MCP is active for your organization.
Only organization admins can see and change this setting. If you don't have access, ask a Cloverleaf admin in your organization to turn it on.
Admin Setup: How do I add Cloverleaf as an app in ChatGPT?
Adding a custom MCP connector in ChatGPT is a workspace admin/owner task and requires Developer Mode. Individual members don't need to do this — once the app is published, it's available to the whole workspace.
Before you start
You're on a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan. (Custom MCP apps aren't available on personal Free/Plus/Pro accounts.)
Developer Mode is enabled. On Business, each admin/owner turns it on in Settings > Apps > Advanced settings. On Enterprise/Edu, an admin grants Developer Mode access, then the authorized user enables it in their own Settings > Apps > Advanced settings. Only admins/owners can publish apps.
In ChatGPT's left sidebar, open the Apps section.
Click the Create button in the top-right corner.
In the New App dialog, fill in the following:
Set the Name field to Cloverleaf.
(Optional) Add a Description, for example: "Connects Cloverleaf's behavioral assessment data into ChatGPT."
Under Connection, keep Server URL selected and paste: https://app.cloverleaf.me/api/mcp
Set Authentication to OAuth. You can leave Advanced OAuth settings at their automatically discovered defaults.
If ChatGPT shows a Scan tools step, run it and complete any OAuth sign-in prompt. Then check the box to acknowledge the custom-MCP-server warning (I understand and want to continue) and click Create. Cloverleaf is the official connector, so it's safe to continue.
Your new app is saved as a Draft (under Apps > Drafts). To make Cloverleaf available to everyone in your workspace, open the Publish dialog. Review each listed risk (Unauthorized data access and Malicious app) so both show Reviewed, then click Publish. On Enterprise/Edu you can also Configure Actions and Configure Access from this modal.
ChatGPT uses a frozen snapshot of an app's tools. When Cloverleaf ships new capabilities, refresh the app's actions to pick them up. On Business plans, a published app can't be edited — to change its URL or metadata, recreate the app and publish again.
You'll know it worked when
Cloverleaf appears in your Apps list as a Custom, Enabled app. Opening it shows the server URL https://app.cloverleaf.me/api/mcp and its two Cloverleaf actions, search and fetch.
How do I connect and authorize the Cloverleaf connector?
Because the app uses OAuth, ChatGPT prompts you to sign in to Cloverleaf the first time you use it. This takes about one minute.
In any chat, open the + / tools menu in the message composer and turn on Cloverleaf (you can also @-mention it). Then send a message that uses it, for example "Using Cloverleaf, show me my Relationship Profile."
ChatGPT opens the Cloverleaf authorization page in your browser.
Review the list of permissions. Cloverleaf will be able to verify your identity, access your basic profile, view your email address, read your assessments and coaching insights, and act on coaching data on your behalf.
Click Authorize. You'll return to ChatGPT with Cloverleaf connected and ready to use.
To use the connector in a chat, make sure Cloverleaf is turned on in that conversation's tools (the + menu) before you send your message.
Adding the Cloverleaf skill as a plugin
In addition to the app (connector), you can add the Cloverleaf coaching skill to ChatGPT as a plugin. A plugin is an installable bundle that packages the Cloverleaf skill — reusable coaching instructions and workflows. It takes about a minute.
In ChatGPT's left sidebar, open the Plugins section.
Click the Create button in the top-right corner, then choose Import from GitHub.
In the Import from GitHub dialog, paste the public Cloverleaf repository URL into the Source field — https://github.com/cloverleaf-coach/cloverleaf-skills. Leave Branch, tag, or commit and Sparse paths at their defaults unless directed otherwise, then click Import from GitHub.
ChatGPT shows a Before you continue warning for plugins from outside OpenAI. Check I understand and accept these risks, then click Continue. Only import plugins from sources you trust — this is the official Cloverleaf repository, so it's safe to continue.
The cloverleaf plugin now appears in your Plugins list with a status of Enabled.
Open the plugin to review its details, including the bundled cloverleaf skill.
To control how it's distributed to your workspace, open Edit installation policy and set the Workspace policy:
Available — eligible members can install the plugin themselves.
Installed — the plugin is installed automatically for everyone in the selected role.
Choose one and click Update.
Once enabled, ChatGPT uses the Cloverleaf skill automatically for relevant coaching tasks, or you can invoke it explicitly by @-mentioning Cloverleaf in a chat.
What can I do once connected?
With the connector active, you can ask ChatGPT questions like:
"What does my Cloverleaf Relationship Profile say about how I show up under pressure?"
"Help me prep for a 1:1 with [teammate name]."
"How should I give [teammate name] feedback about a missed deadline so it actually lands?"
"Show me the relationship dynamics between me and [teammate name]."
"Give me my coaching for today."
ChatGPT will pull your real assessment data and interpreted personality dynamics directly in the conversation.
To use the connector in a chat, make sure Cloverleaf is turned on in that conversation's tools.
How do I verify the connection is working?
Start a new chat, turn on the Cloverleaf app from the + / tools menu, and ask: "Using Cloverleaf, what does my Relationship Profile say about how I show up under pressure?"
If the connection is working, ChatGPT will respond with insights grounded in your real assessment results. If ChatGPT says it cannot find the tool, go back to Apps, confirm Cloverleaf shows as Enabled, and refresh the app's actions.
